On April 13, the No 1 pumping station of the irrigation area in the grape corridor in Qingtongxia in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region went into operation.

The operation of the No 1 and No 2 pumping stations means 102,500 mu (6,833.33 hectares) of grapes and corn are being irrigated by the Yellow River. Among them, the irrigation of an existing 61,000 mu of farmland has been improved and an irrigated area of 41,500 mu has been added.

The eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains are recognized as one of the most suitable areas for wine grape cultivation in the world. The region renovated the original site of the No 1 and No 2 pumping stations to solve the problem of insufficient water in the grape corridor.

Meanwhile, the water of the Yellow River was used to replace local groundwater to protect the regional ecological environment, as well as improve the irrigation water guarantee rate and water resource utilization efficiency.

In November 2021, Ningxia started the construction of the grape corridor pump station. The No 2 pump station went into operation on April 9 after more than 140 days of construction.
